Company History
Lewis Micallef Co Ltd, commonly known today as “Il-Qronfla“ by the younger generation, has been established for more than 150 years, and has a strong position with local florists and flower decorators. Lewis Micallef founded the business in the late 18th Century. In those days we were located at ‘8’ Kingsway Street Valletta, known today as Republic Street. The firm has always been based on fresh flowers, plants and other decorations to fit a lovely home. Lewis Micallef was one of the first importers to bring such products to the Maltese Islands. Philip Muscat, nephew to Lewis Micallef was passed the business in later days. At this time Philip Muscat was the main flower supplier to the British services and her Majesty Queen Elizabeth during her stay in Malta.
In July 1967, our Firm Lewis Micallef became one of the first members of the Interflora in Malta. We are still proud members of this association. Lewis Micallef was also the first to supply flowers to leading hotels and establishments that were opening their doors back then, such as the Corinthia, Hilton etc…
Nowadays, the business is run by Aldo and Patrick Muscat, the sons of the late Philip Muscat. On their take over, through dedication and hard work they have managed to create the brand name ‘Qronfla’ as the leading florists on the Maltese Islands. Today Lewis Micallef Co. Ltd or better known as ‘Il-Qronfla’, is a paternal business employing over 20 dedicated personnel.
